Hong Kong University its effective maintenance would be impossible with the contributions that might be expected from the Government and the mercantile community.
Mr. Sloss said that they had been in a position at that time to see their way fairly clearly for a small University for Hong Xing. It wanted a vast amount of improving and developing. In 1938 the Government had very generously increased its grant threcfold to the University and had helped in every conceivable way. In his own derlings with this matter he had had very strong support from the Colonial Office.
Mr. Mayhew hoped that these problems of Hong Kong University would be considered with reference to the Malayan Hi her Education Comission Report because it would be remembered that Hong Kong University would be used by Halayan students.
The Chairman thanked Mr. Sloss very much for coming to the meeting and wished him well in the days ahead.
